Immunnostimulatory activity of Holothuria atra sea cucumber

Immunostimulant is a substance that can stimulate the immune system against pathogenic microbes. Natural products produced by sea cucumbers have potential to be developed as immunostimulants. This study was aimed evaluate imunostimulatory activity of Holothuria atra extract using phagocytocyte assay macrophage cells and differentiation leukocyte in rats. The samples H. were taken from Halmahera waters, North Maluku, Indonesia. Extraction carried out with 96% ethanol. Phagocytocyte isolated Balb/c mice ( Mus musculus ) series doses 0.5; 1.0; 2.0; 4.0; 8.0; 16.0 32.0 mg/kg body weight. Leukocyte test vivo conducted Rattus norvegicus rat treated for 90 days following doses: 0, 25, 50, 100, 200 results showed highest phagocytosis reached at concentration 4.0 µg/ml, but it insignificantly different negative control group p < 0.05). administration increased response animals which characterized increasing number lymphocyte cells. also decreased monocytes neutrophils, suggesting suppression inflammation tested Extract did not cause hypersensitivity reaction indicated unchanged eosinophil basophil Based on this study, concluded had potency develop an immunostimulant.
